Meet Our Coaches!
Coach Ron Bright - Coach Ron, a Northern Illinois University grad, is the owner of PSB and an active competitor. Ron is a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach with a SafeSport Certification. Recently, he had the pleasure of coaching one of his lifters at Youth Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia. Ron is also a successful business person in the Dekalb/Sycamore area and is excited to continue his excellent community standing with Prairie State Barbell.
Coach Brandon Male - Coach Brandon, a Northern Illinois University grad, is the Head Weightlifting coach for Prairie State Barbell. Coach Brandon holds the USAW Level 1 Coach Certification and has been a strength and conditioning coach for amateur and professional athletes for over 16 years. He is currently a full time member of the Exercise Science Faculty at Northern Illinois University where he oversees instruction in Applied Exercise Physiology, High Performance Resistance Training, and Sports Performance Development. In addition to his course work, Coach Brandon oversees supervision of the field experience/internships for graduating seniors from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. As a Doctoral candidate, his current areas of research interest include: Stress response and alterations to fine motor control, sports nutrition, biomechanical concepts of elite level human performance, and physiological adaptations to high force/velocity muscular performance.
Coach Laura Bright- Coach Laura, a Northern Illinois University grad, is an active competitor and a recent Masters National Qualifier. She is a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach and SafeSport Certified. Laura is also a local business owner and a former Elementary School Teacher. Coach Laura is an assistant coach on the team and Operations Manager for Prairie State Barbell.
